CIBC has announced a significant upgrade to the lounge access benefits on its Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege card, effective immediately. The enhanced package positions the Aventura VIP as one of the most competitive lounge cards in the Canadian market, addressing a key area where the product had previously lagged behind rivals from American Express and TD.
The headline change is the addition of unlimited Priority Pass membership with unlimited guest access. Previously, the Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege included Priority Pass with a cap of four complimentary visits per year, after which cardholders were charged $32 USD per visit. Under the new terms, both the primary cardholder and one authorized user receive unlimited Priority Pass lounge visits at no additional cost. Each can bring up to two guests per visit at no charge.
CIBC has also negotiated exclusive access to several Maple Leaf Lounges operated by Air Canada at Toronto Pearson, Vancouver International, and Montreal-Trudeau airports. Aventura VIP cardholders can access these lounges regardless of airline or cabin class, a benefit previously restricted to Air Canada elite status holders and Aeroplan cardholders. The Maple Leaf Lounge access is limited to four visits per calendar year and does not include guest access.
In addition to the lounge changes, CIBC is introducing a $200 annual travel credit for Aventura VIP cardholders. The credit applies automatically to any travel purchase coded as airline, hotel, car rental, or cruise and posts as a statement credit within two billing cycles. This benefit stacks with the card's existing first-year annual fee rebate promotion, which waives the $499 annual fee for the first year.
The lounge improvements come at a time when airport lounge access has become one of the most valued credit card benefits in Canada. Post-pandemic travel demand has driven record lounge utilization, and premium cardholders increasingly cite lounge access as a primary reason for carrying a high-fee card. CIBC's move to unlimited Priority Pass visits directly responds to this trend.
The competitive context is important. The American Express Platinum Card, with its $799 annual fee, offers Priority Pass, Centurion Lounge access, and Plaza Premium lounge visits. The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite card includes Priority Pass with limited visits. By offering unlimited Priority Pass at a $499 annual fee, CIBC is undercutting the Amex Platinum on lounge access while maintaining competitive earn rates and insurance benefits.
CIBC has also upgraded the digital lounge experience within the CIBC Mobile Banking app. Cardholders can now view nearby lounges, check real-time capacity estimates, and present a digital membership card for entry, eliminating the need for a separate Priority Pass app or physical card.
The Aventura Visa Infinite Privilege continues to earn 1.5 Aventura points per dollar on all purchases, with accelerated earn rates of 3 points per dollar on Air Canada purchases and 2 points per dollar on dining, gas, groceries, and drugstore spending. Aventura points can be redeemed through the CIBC Rewards Centre for flights on any airline, hotel stays, car rentals, and vacation packages.
Existing cardholders do not need to take any action to receive the enhanced benefits. The updated Priority Pass membership is being activated automatically, and new digital Priority Pass cards will appear in the CIBC app within the next two weeks. The $200 travel credit will apply to eligible purchases made from March 13, 2026, onward.
Impact
CIBC Aventura VIP cardholders now get unlimited Priority Pass lounge visits and guest access, up from just four visits annually. The new Maple Leaf Lounge access and $200 travel credit add meaningful value. This makes the $499 card significantly more competitive against the Amex Platinum for lounge-focused travellers.
What to do
Existing cardholders should check the CIBC app for their updated digital Priority Pass card. If you have been considering a premium travel card, compare the Aventura VIP's new benefits against the Amex Platinum and TD First Class to see which lounge network best matches your travel patterns.
