Questions, answered plainly.

How do you rank the cards?

By what each card would earn you in a year at your spending, minus its annual fee and the foreign transaction fee on what you spend abroad. The welcome bonus is shown on its own line and never added in, because it is paid once. If you carry a balance (in countries where cards publish a purchase rate), we rank by the lowest purchase rate (APR) instead. Every figure we use is marked Checked or Estimate.

How do you make money if it's unbiased?

Today it doesn't: PointsExplained has no affiliate partnerships and earns nothing from card issuers. Rankings are driven by value to you, by the same rules for every card — and we show the math.

Where do the card details come from?

The issuer's own published terms, and in some countries the regulator's own product data. Where we hold a figure we print it; where we don't, we leave it blank and say so rather than guess.
